3 main components and tips you MUST have for your Home Office
During these uncertain times, many of us have had to work from home. Keeping our mind and body healthy has never been more important. Many people around the world, including where I am based, London, have had to forget about going into an office. It is safe to say that it will take some time before everyone is aloud to go back into the city and some will just remain working from home. A home office is now a very important space in your house. When choosing your home office components, many factors should be considered but the main three are desk, chair and lighting. For tips on how your home office space can be used in more ways than one, read my blog on Home office/flex space solutions.
1) Office Desk
The desk should be big enough to accommodate all you need to be able to do your work effectively. The material of the desk should be comfortable to your touch. As I am from the tropics, a metal desk feels cold to me. A wooden desk would be my first choice. There are options out there that combine materials. Also, if you suffer from back pain, a standing desk would be your best option. Just make sure, when you are standing, it is set elbow high.
2) Office Chair
Your chair must be comfortable and if it is adjustable, even better! Make sure it gives you proper lumbar support. For a home office if you are not going to be moving around much, castors are not essential. I much rather you invest on a chair that is made of a material that you find fabulous and will be able to sit on and look at ti for a la long time. Choosing a funky colour for your home office chair is also a great option in order to inject some fun into your working hours. There is nothing like spending hours on a comfy chair and not feel body aches after a long day’s work. Of course, the look of desk and chair combined should reflect your personality along with the finishing touches.
3) Lighting
A desk lamp not only contributes to the mood of your work space but it also provides you with much needed task lighting during those late work nights. The desk lamp should be placed opposite to your writing hand as not to cast shadows. If you are a night owl, white light is best. Position & Personal Touches
Where to place your desk? You need to have power outlets for all your tech gadgets. If possible, the desk should face a window, so you can enjoy a glimpse of what is going on outside your room and take advantage of that much coveted natural light.
Personal touches like plants and picture frames also make a more welcoming work environment. This is a place where you will be spending a lot of your time in and it should make you feel good!
